She's alone at college. Stefan - last she heard, Stefan's not anywhere. He's not at school with them, he's not with Elena (Damon's with Elena, and that's a whole problem in and of itself), and he's not Silas. Well, sometimes, Silas is him, but.... she misses him.
She misses him, and she misses Bonnie, because for some reason she's being lame and hasn't come home, hasn't joined them at college, and she doesn't know the worst of it yet. She doesn't know that Bonnie's not coming home, she doesn't know that Stefan spent months in a safe before he got out. She's alone when she doesn't like being alone. She's small fish in a big pond, now. She's not Miss Mystic Falls, she's not anything besides a lost freshman who's got somebody on campus putting vervain in water bottles and who has a dead roommate and her other roommate just off and left.
This isn't what it was supposed to be. This is so far from what her College Experience, capital letters and all, was supposed to be.
And what it's supposed to be even less? That she's got an armful of books and is going to Intro to Bio, and when she turns around he's in front of her. She knows it's Silas wearing Stefan's face, she knows it is, and she can't stop the very real fear from furrowing her brows, and the way she holds her books tighter. "What do you want?" The words are quiet, there's tension and fear there, and she doesn't realise at all that he's not Silas, not this time. He's not going to threaten to tear out her heart, or really tear out her heart - he's not going to pull the heads off of student just walking by.
She's got no idea, but she stands there; too terrified or too smart to run, because she knows he's faster, stronger, and she's acutely aware she's expendable.
